Spain is the latest country to follow Great Britain by embracing online gambling after Italy’s decision to regulate gaming. The moves on behalf of these two European countries along with Great Britain might have a positive effect on the United States government who is said to reconsider Anti-internet Gambling Act.
The regional government of Madrid announced allowing bets in locations over the telephone and online. Bets allowed cover sports and other competition as well as internet gambling on casino games and bingo with restrictions to participation of young and mentally ill people.
Some main online companies have already started flooding the new markets with license applications. Companies such as Ladbrooks, William Hill and Gala Coral along with SportingBet and PartyGaming are expected to bid for licenses. The licenses will last for 5 years after which the regulator has the right to renew if conditions were met.
Italy’s new regulated market is worth €3.7 bilion and has opened about 17,000 licenses which will hold 10,000 new horseracing betting outlets and 7,000 sports betting shops.
